Photo LA – Bob Poe – iPhone Photos
Luckily, two of my friends started talking to Bob Poe at LAAA’s booth in Photo LA – otherwise I would’ve had no idea that all of his photographs were shot on an iPhone. The work looked manipulated, but Bob assured us that all he did to the pictures were make them larger so he could print them out as giclees on canvasses. And it was pretty incredible to look at my own iPhone after talking to him and thinking about how the standard camera app on it could actually take fine art quality photos like his. Also, Bob played a little fun trick on us when he pointed to the wall of his eye photos and said ‘guess which one isn’t from a human.’ So we kept pointing at different ones thinking they were from some kind of animal, but he kept shaking his head until he finally revealed which one it was and how it was of actually a picture of a mannequin at the wax museum on Hollywood Blvd. Classic!
