LA Art Show: Side Street
Side Street is a nonprofit organization that’s helping artists of all ages to have the resources they need in order to complete their work. However, one of their main focuses is on arts education in elementary schools – particularly woodworking. And since they have to be mobile in order to reach all the schools in their district, they’ve created a one-of-a-kind woodworking shop inside of a vintage trailer that happened to be on display at the 2012 LA Art Show. Side Street also hosts classes for adults, but they’re more focused on the business side of things rather than techniques – although they do offer a lot of free podcasts covering a range of related topics on their website. Also of note, is that they have several large solar panels they can run all their electricity off of, so they can basically set up anywhere their trailers will allow.
