It was raining the night of Raymond Pettibon’s opening reception at Regen Projects, but that didn’t stop a huge crowd from turning up anyways. Pettibon unveiled a wide range of new paintings, with themes showcasing everything from religion to surfing. While looking at one of the pieces, my friend and I noticed it had small holes in its corners from where Pettibon had placed push-pins to keep the paper on his wall while he painted it. And afterwords I realized it was awesome that he didn’t crop a subtle detail like that out of the work , because it offered a glimpse into his process.
