ART PLATFORM Los Angeles – Installations
On the second floor of the building where Art Platform was taking place was a large sculpture of a snake made entirely out of backpacks by Ai Weiwei. To balance out the room, Kim Schoenstadt painted a wonderful abstract city scape which incorporated optical illusions to make it seem three-dimension. If you took the elevator downstairs to where Co/Lab was taking place, there was an installation by Paul Guillemette of a set of wooden stairs that messed with my perception of space for a moment. When I first walked by them I thought they were the stairs to get back up the plaza level of the building and nearly slammed my head into the wall. Then of course there were the amazing pieces like David Abir’s Tekrar: Level 4 and James Franco’s Franco/Ramirex , which I wrote entire articles about that you can view here: http://argotandochre.com/2011/10/art-platform-los-angeles-david-abir/ or http://argotandochre.com/2011/10/art-platform-los-angeles-james-franco/
