The Art of The US Open of Surfing 2011
I headed to the beach to unwind from all the commotion at the AGENDA Trade Show and found myself at The 2011 US Open of Surfing competition. Although there wasn’t any traditional “art” at the event besides a big legal free-draw wall, there were huge ads and elements of design everywhere. From a sly Hurley ad on a lifeguard tower to bowls at the skatepark shaped like crashing waves, there was visual candy everywhere – at least as long as you weren’t distracted by all the jailbait, swimsuits, and sand clouds. Kelly Slater, the greatest surfer of all-time, took home first place! FYI: Nike owns both Hurley and Converse.
