There was a huge amount of young kids at this month’s Downtown Art Walk - probably because it’s the last month of summer before everyone goes back to school. There was also a huge SMS poster campaign claiming that you could win a prize for texting DTAW to 55678, but all we got we’re links to the official website and burnt calories from walking everywhere. The following are photographs of some highlights from the night. There were too many things where I couldn’t get the camera out fast enough to capture as well as a ton of galleries and venues we didn’t get to visit. Literally every time I’ve been I’ve discovered new places to explore.
Eye to Eye was on exhibit at Crewest Gallery. There was also a ton of free jarritos soda and really rad artists like Dave Cooley, McEnvoy, and Rodriguez on display
These are from a gallery on the 8th floor of an apartment building on Main Street that randomly had a hair salon inside of it.
Really rad B&W photographs by Christian Carrera with tons of punk rock attitude
Sculptures by David Lovejoy
Happy paintings by Yozo Abe, whose card says Japanese Passionate Artist
I had to provide photo evidence that this piece was selling for $9,000
The artist had painting a board black and then drilled out all of the lighter color you’re seeing
This looked like a light box with just abstract painting on it from afar, but when you went up close there were actually transparent photographs of various grids and towers on them
These are in the window of a popular gallery on Main Street, we kept wondering if Shepard’s studio made them
Print by Luke Majas
Johnny Nicoloro’s submission for LA’ Virgins at the vault gallery
For $10 you could get a print signed by Lalo Alcaraz. There were signs for Coba everywhere, I think it’s some type of drink
An Almighty Opp impostor was doing a puppet show right outside The Smell
