Tom Otterness in the subway
In 2001 Tom Otterness was commissioned to make a subway stop in Manhattan more lively. His happy figures are hiding all over the station at 14th street and 8th avenue, and it’s really great fun to look for them as you wait for your train. Characters range from street buskers to wall-street money heads. Each figure is mirrored on the stations where trains are going opposite ways so you get the same experience no matter what direction you’re going. You can view maps of Otterness’ work all over the world to see if there are any pieces in your area on his website HERE.
