It’s my belief that among other things, art should inspire, fascinate, and fill your mind with the kind of wonder akin to that of childhood. For this reason, Tim Hawkinson ranks as my all time favorite artist. Is that too definitive of me to say? Perhaps. But then I think: If I were stranded on a desert island and there was the work of only one artist I could take with me, Tim Hawkinson’s would be it. Part artist, part mad scientist, Hawkinson’s creations are nothing short of tiny miracles. Using the most unexpected and unusual of materials, Hawkinson’s work challenges viewers to take a closer look at what they’re seeing. Spider webs woven with human hair, a bird skeleton made of nail clippings, and a manila envelope that tells time are a few examples of past creations. Catch his new work at Pace Wildenstein before the end of July. To learn more, check out the press release here.
